After a dozen years of marriage, country singer Jason Aldean and his wife Jessica Ussery are officially finished as a couple. Aldean filed for divorce in Tennessee April 26, citing irreconcilable differences.

It had been widely reported last week that the pair were merely separated and "having problems" as part of a "private family matter."

Aldean made headlines last fall when he was caught on camera apparently making out with "American Idol" competitor Brittany Kerr. He admitted to the transgression and both he and his wife seemed committed to working on bridging the scandal together.

The 36-year-old, who has two young daughters with Ussery, told People that the split is a "really tough time for my entire family" and that he would appreciate privacy at this time in respect for his children.

Aldean, who has been with Ussery since high school, noted to Our Country in October that balancing family life and a rapidly rising career can be challenging. "My two daughters were born right in the middle of [my success]," he notes. "You have to figure out ways to make it work, and it's not always easy."

The Grammy-nominated star, 36, most recently won the Male Vocalist of the Year title at the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards earlier in April. He is up for Top Male Artist, as well as two other awards, at next month's Billboard Music Awards.
