Kenny Chesney: The Future’s So Bright, He’s Gotta Design Shades

Our Country

There seems to be no limit to superstar Kenny Chesney's list of "extracurricular" projects. In addition to keeping himself busy as one of country music's biggest superstars, he's already tackled the worlds of documentary filmmaking, internet radio, and clothing design over the past few years.

So, what's the latest project to hit his plate? Well, as you might expect from a guy who lives on a Caribbean island--he's releasing his debut line of sunglasses.

Chesney announced Tuesday that he's partnered with shademakers Costa to design a limited-edition collection of five different styles, all of which feature hand-drawn artwork etched inside the arms that reflects Chesney's life and favorite things. One style called "Hammerhead," for example, sports the time-tested lyric "No Shoes. No Shirt. No Problems!"

You can check out all of his designs at the Costa site, but here's the "Hammerhead" to give you a feel for the vibe.

Meanwhile, how do you think Chesney looks in his new shades? Pretty stylin', no?

The glasses will go on sale March 17 online at Costa, and will also be available at each stop of Chesney's Goin' Coastal North American concert tour (which also begins March 17, and runs through the end of August).

And, the best part is, it's all in the name of a great cause. Proceeds from sales of the sunglasses will benefit an ocean conservation group, the Coastal Conservation Association, which is an interest both Chesney and Costa support.

Here's a video of Chesney discussing his partnership with Costa. "The image that they have goes hand-in-hand with the music I make," he explains, adding that he's been wearing the shades for some of his best-loved activities such as fishing, sailing, and songwriting.

Have a look--if anything, it'll make you want to play hooky and hop a plane to somewhere sunny right about now. Ahhh, that beach sure looks nice, Kenny.

Even if you can't join Kenny on St. John's for a bit of sunbathing, will you be attending his Goin' Coastal tour this summer? It's his biggest tour in five years, and he's playing tons of dates. Let me know if you'll be there when he hits your town!
