Miranda Lambert Is Self’s Cover Girl: ‘It’s OK To Be Fat And Lazy Sometimes’

Guess who's the latest country beauty to grace the cover of Self? None other than Miranda Lambert, who--unlike many of Self's svelte cover models--is a subject sure to endear to all the "normal" chicks out there. Because, as it turns out, Lambert really is just one of the girls; with a refreshing, balanced take on health and fitness.

First of all, Lambert isn't obsessed with having an ideal figure. In fact, she's usually happy exactly as she is. "It's OK to be fat and lazy sometimes," she tells Self, admitting that she likes her "big butt" and doesn't care about being stick-thin.

However, after having gained 10 pounds over the holidays (told you she's normal!), Lambert found she was less energetic on stage. Like many women, she turned to her husband for feedback. "I asked Blake [Shelton], 'Dude, why didn't you tell me I got fat?' He said, 'That would go over like a lead balloon. It's not my job to tell you you're fat. It's my job to tell you you're beautiful.'"

Sweet though her spouse may be, Lambert decided to whip herself into shape in order to feel a bit better. "I absolutely hate exercise," she admits to Self. "I love it afterward, of course. But my trainer is so nice, I want to do push-ups to please him!"

It's no wonder Lambert wants to please her trainer--he sounds pretty cool. In fact, he even allows a bit of partying. "I drink Bacardi," admits Lambert, who says she sometimes likes to "throw down" after a show. "My trainer, Bill, approves. I mean, he'd rather me not drink, but that's not an option."

Lambert also likes to have something to eat after an energetic performance, but she's modified what's served up backstage. "I'll have a grilled-chicken salad waiting for me. And except for almonds and bananas, I don't keep snacks on the bus. I don't want Cheetos anywhere around me."

In the end, it's all about balance for Lambert. "I won't give up what I enjoy to look perfect," she states. "I want to find a happy medium between feeling good about my body and still having a beer and some barbecue." Amen to that!
