Randy Travis Steps Out in Public for First Time Since Critical Illness

Our Country

It's been a little more than six months since Randy Travis was released from the hospital following critical heart issues, a stroke, and brain surgery. He's clearly been working hard at recovery, as fans will happily see from a recent photo posted on social media.

The shot came from Travis's friend and fellow country singer Neal McCoy, who informed his Facebook followers that Travis was backstage at a Smiles For Life concert in Dallas.

"Pretty honored this was Randy's first time out and his first time to have Cowboy boots on since his illness," noted McCoy, who was performing at the show Friday.

We think Travis looks great; don't you? The two buddies are just a year apart (McCoy is 55; Travis, 54) and we're glad to see both looking so happy and healthy.

Travis's health scare started last summer, when he originally entered a Texas hospital on July 7 for heart issues. He remained in critical condition all that week, received an assistive heart device and was ultimately transferred to a nearby facility for further, more intensive care. On July 10, he suffered a stroke and was operated on to relieve pressure on his brain. He was transferred to a physical therapy facility at the end of the month. Understandably, he's been out of the spotlight since then.
