Mark Ballas: Rocking With The Stars

Usually, when a reality TV star records music, it's kind of a joke. (Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Heidi Montag, The Situation...I'm looking at you.) But the music of Mark Ballas, a man best known for his pro ballroom moves on "Dancing With The Stars," is as serious as a paso doble. Some guys just get all the talent. It's not fair.

Mark, a graduate of the world-famous Italia Conti Performing Arts School in his native England, started studying flamenco guitar at age 4, started writing his own songs at age 12, and formed the Ballas Hough Band with his future "DWTS" castmate and best friend Derek Hough at age 17. That band released its first album in 2009, and this year Mark released his great solo debut, HurtLoveBox, which has a pleasingly Timberlake-meets-Mayer-meets-Thicke sort of vibe and tons of impressive fretwork.

By the way, Mark is only 25 years old. Feel inadequate yet?

Anyway, Mark recently took time out of his busy "DWTS" rehearsal schedule with current partner Chelsea Kane to stop by Yahoo! Music to play four fabulous acoustic songs off HurtLoveBox. He also did a brief interview in which he didn't exactly 'fess up about his rumored romance with "American Idol" contestant Pia Toscano...but he did talk about how he, like the rest of the nation, was shocked by her elimination, and he discussed the possibility of them collaborating on music together someday.

Check that out below, and in the meantime enjoy these clips of Mark making beautiful music on his own!
