Holly Tucker says goodbye to Blake Shelton

Until this Tuesday, "The Voice" Season 4 was looking like "Nashville Star," the talent show that once launched the career of Blake Shelton's wife, Miranda Lambert. Of the six contestants still left in the competition, four of them were country acts, and three of those acts belonged to Blake, the only coach to still maintain a totally intact team.

Until this Tuesday, that is.

On Tuesday's "Voice" elimination show, country music finally took a hit, as Holly Tucker became the first country artist — and the first Team Blake contestant — to be voted out of this season's top 12 semifinals.

Holly actually had a pretty good run on this show; to be honest, I am surprised that she made it all the way to the top six, outlasting former frontrunners like last week's shocker cuts, Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons. She'd struggled with bad placements (almost always singing first or second) and stiff competition from two other young blonde country girls, Danielle Bradbery and Amber Carrington. But somehow, she survived.

I feel like it was just last week, when Holly belted out the sassy Band Perry barnstormer "Done" (followed by a similarly uptempo and crowd-rousing Martina McBride song this week), that she finally started to find her groove, her style, and yes, her voice. If only Blake had assigned her fun, feisty, fearless songs like those earlier this season, instead of church hymns and boring pageant ballads, Holly may have amassed a bigger following and stayed in the game even longer.

Three of the remaining five contestants — Blake's Danielle and the Swon Brothers, and Adam Levine's Amber Carrington — are still country singers, so there's still a good chance that Season 4 of "The Voice" will find another Nashville star, so to speak, to follow last season's winner, Cassadee Pope (who performed her new country-pop single on Tuesday's results show, and is about to embark on a tour with Rascal Flatts and the Band Perry).

But don't count out Team Shakira's R&B powerhouse, Sasha Allen, or Team Usher's pop-rock queen of quirk, Michelle Chamuel, just yet. Anything could happen between now and the June 18 finale, and anyone could win, so watch this space.
