Following the powerhouse trio are Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen and One Direction, who are up for 10, nine and eight trophies, respectively.
Additionally, Swift, Maroon 5, Rihanna, and One Direction--as well as Justin Bieber--will be competing for the night's premier award, Top Artist.
The awards show, which takes place in Las Vegas May 19 and will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET, will also weigh in on the year's top song, album, and artists in various genres.
A new addition to the ceremony this year is the addition of electronic music categories--David Guetta, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, and deadmau5 will be sparring for the top EDM album distinction.
According to Billboard, the finalists were determined by key fan interactions with music, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music.
