Damien Rice’s Cover Of U2′s “One” Leaks

Stop The Presses!

If Bono and Damien Rice had a battle of vocals, I think we all know who would blast the other off the stage. It's this dichotomy that makes Rice's gentle cover of U2's "One" for "Q" magazine so effective--you've got to love re-interpretations by polar opposites.

In conjunction with the magazine's 25th birthday, U.K. music magazine "Q" is releasing a covers version of U2's 1991 album "Achtung Baby" in celebration of the classic album's 20th anniversary. With the phonetically spelled name "AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered," the album will bring together an impressive array of top musical talent like Rice, Jack White, Patti Smith, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, the Killers and many more, each giving their own spin on one of the "Achtung" tracks.

The album is slated to be released October 25, but Damien Rice's cover of "One" was leaked
onto the internet this week. Giving the song his signature sullenness, Rice
trades Bono's habitually bellowing vocals for a softer, acoustic take on the hit
single. Judging from Rice's emotive cover and the list of artists expected on the album, this will be a phenomenal addition to any U2 or rock music fan's music library.

"AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered" will be included for free with "Q" Magazine's upcoming issue, releasing a few days before U2's decadent 20th anniversary re-issue packs of "Achtung Baby" drop on October 31.
