Scratch that. The Foo Fighters leader actually did manage to close down a stretch of busy Hollywood Boulevard Tuesday night, when he treated Angelenos to an outdoor set from his all-star supergroup Sound City Players.
One of the best moments of the epic show: Grohl was joined on stage by Creedence Clearwater Revival icon John Fogerty for a rendition of CCR's "Fortunate Son." Grohl and Fogerty traded off verses while a massive crowd of fans filled the boulevard and bounced along to the energetic classic.
The supergroup, which grew out of Grohl's upcoming documentary Sound City--a film detailing the history of the Los Angeles recording studio by the same name--were promoting the movie and its accompanying soundtrack on Jimmy Kimmel Live that evening.
Artists that have performed with Grohl under the Sound City Players banner include Fogerty, McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, and many more. The supergroup will perform March 14 at Austin music fest South By Southwest; Fogerty, Nicks, Springfield, and Nielsen, plus more, are confirmed to play the set.
Sound City premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and went into limited release at the beginning of February. The soundtrack, Sound City: Real to Reel, will hit the streets March 12.
