The House Where Amy Winehouse Lived–And Died–Now Up For Sale
The London house where superstar vocalist Amy Winehouse was found dead last July has been put up for sale by her family, with a current real estate listing online at HouseNetwork.co.uk. Fans who are interested in the property best have deep pockets: The home is priced at approximately $4.2 million.
According to a spokesperson, the house is being sold with "great regret" by the family. "Amy loved that house, but none of the family felt it appropriate that they should live in it. It was not practical to keep it empty while paying for its upkeep."
Winehouse's father, Mitch, additionally confirmed the news by tweeting Thursday: "It is with regret that we have to sell Amy's house in Camden Square. It is empty and costing a fortune to secure it."
The house, which is located in the trendy Camden area of London, is described in its listing as a "substantial and impressive three double bedroom, three reception room semi detached period villa with well-proportioned private front and rear gardens." A complete interior and exterior photo tour of the property accompanies the listing.
Winehouse's former ownership is not mentioned, although it is noted that the home "only changed hands once in over 40 years." Winehouse reportedly purchased the property with her father in 2010.
When Winehouse was discovered dead at 27 years old from alcohol poisoning last year, fans raced to create shrines outside the house--building them using everything from flowers to dolls to packs of cigarettes.
Despite its tragic history, Mitch Winehouse seems optimistic his daughter's house will make a fine home for the right folks who come along. "I hope a lovely family buys it as it is so full of love," he tweeted.
