Back in May, singer/rapper/actor Ja Rule was released from prison after completing his sentences for attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion.

He was sentenced to two years behind bars back in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon related to a 2007 incident in which he was found by police with a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his car. In July of last year, he was sentenced to 28 months for tax evasion for failing to pay Uncle Sam taxes on the more than $3 million he pulled down from 2004-2006. Ja, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, was allowed to serve the sentences for his crimes concurrently and even was let out early, although he remains under home confinement until July 28.

On October 18, he'll be headed to a theater near you in I'm in Love with a Church Girl, which has been described as "a faith-based film based on a true story." The film co-stars former Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon and features Stephen Baldwin, Vincent Pastore, Toby Mac, T-Bone and Michael Madsen.

In the film, Ja Rule plays Miles Montego, a former drug trafficker who falls for a church girl (Adrienne Bailon) and changes his ways after he suffers a spiritual breakdown.

Think the theme of the film will spill over into Ja's real life and keep him on the straight and narrow?
