Keb’ Mo’ Gives Tour Of Stax Records Museum

Stop The Presses!

The new TNT show Memphis Beat is actually taped in the city rich with music history.

Memphis is the hometown of the legendary Stax Records, the company known for an artist roster that included Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Isaac Hayes.

Keb' Mo', who provides music for the TV show offered Yahoo! an exclusive tour of the museum, the only soul music museum of its magnitude in the world.

"Motown was infinitely influence by Stax and vice-versa, but they filled two different roles," he said. "Stax was greasy side, Motown was the pop side of soul music."

As Keb' Mo' walks down the museum halls, he points out records by some of the label's favorite sons: Johnnie Taylor, Albert King, and Little Milton.

He also discusses a few of the newest signees on the label: Angie Stone and Lalah Hathaway.

Memphis Beat premieres on TNT Tuesday, June 22, at 10/9c.
