Maybe Grammy Award-winning pop singer Belinda Carlisle, 54, will keep the title of her 1987 hit in mind now that’s she’s studying to become a yoga instructor.
In January, Carlisle, who was also the frontwoman of the 1980s all girls band The Go-Gos, began taking a six-month course.

“day 2 kundalini yoga teacher training. up at 5. today from 8 to 8. tomorrow I start at 4am. the MAGIC has begun….,” she wrote on January 19.
Things intensified by Day 3. “pooped,” she wrote. “fascinating. surprised at myself…..breath of fire for 28 minutes. that’s a first. lots of homework ;)”
By Week 2, she was gloating about having a class with the renowned Guru Singh, who was voted “Best Guru” by Los Angeles Magazine.
So into yoga, Carlisle tweets about finding kundalini classes while in France and having an early morning chat with yoga aficionado and Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons.
The Go-Gos are credited as the first all-female rock band to write their own songs, play their own instruments and top the Billboard charts. Their 1981 debut album, Beauty And The Beat, achieved multi-platinum status and included the song “We Got The Beat” that held the Number One chart position for six weeks.
After the group disbanded in 1985, Carlisle embarked on a solo career that yielded a number of successful albums.
Over the years, she has appeared on several television shows, including Dancing With The Stars, the UK reality show Hell’s Kitchen, Celebrity Duets and MTV’s Rock The Cradle.
In 2010, Carlisle’s autobiography Lips Unsealed made The New York Times Best Sellers List. In the book, Carlise discussed recovering from drug addiction.
In 2012, Carlisle said she had been sober for 7 years. “My book, it was a rock n roll story, but I wrote it because I thought it could be an inspirational book for people that wanted to make changes later in life,” she told Access Hollywood. “You can teach an old dog new tricks.”
Carlisle said her days of partying had taken a toll on her and she was ready to make a change. “I was just sick of it,” she said. “Not just the drugs and the alcohol but the behavior that goes along with it. … I just woke up one day and said, ‘That’s it.’”
Carlisle continued, “I went on a three-day coke and alcohol binge. I just looked at myself, and I just didn’t look like myself. There was like no light, no soul. … What it comes down to is it was a choice between life and death. That’s it.”
Carlisle has been married to film producer Morgan Mason since 1986. They have a 20-year-old son, James Duke Mason.
In 2011, The Go-Gos launched the Ladies Gone Wild tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Beauty And The Beat, and continue to perform together.
