Stop The Presses!

Well, dear readers, you have Sanrio to thank for helping you no longer fear death. Because now that the Japanese company has hosted an amazing 50th anniversary VIP party in Los Angeles, you all know exactly what Heaven looks like. Something like this:

Yes, the beloved institution that birthed our 2D childhood pals My Melody, Little Twin Stars, Chococat, Tuxedo Sam, Badtz-Maru, Keroppi, and of course Hello Kitty has been around for a half-century...and to celebrate, Kitty and all her furry friends threw a massive bash at Santa Monica's Barker Hangar on November 11 that put even last year's mind-blowing Hello Kitty 35th birthday parties to shame.

Kicking off a 10-day, open-to-the-public, celebratory "Small Gift Los Angeles" spree of Hello Kitty sushi-making and cupcake-decorating classes, DJ dance parties, Hello Kitty Sephora makeup tutorials, and Sanrio-inspired art installations from 50 artists across 11 rooms, this opening gala offered everything that Sanrio-loving celebrity guests could desire: Sanrio-flavored Yogurtland and Beard Papa's treats, old-school Japanese arcade games, a pop-up shop selling 50th anniversary collectibles, a dress-up photo booth, a Hello Kitty miniature golf course (where Erik Estrada, of all people, was spotted putting), food trucks, a Ferris wheel, and, perhaps most thrillingly, all the sake and soju guests could gulp.

Along with Estrada, other celebrity guests seen getting catty were Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and a beguilingly pixie-haired Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, longtime HK-worshipper Lisa Loeb (watch her Kitty music video here), hip-hop fashion princess Kimora Lee Simmons and her fellow Kitty-inspired fashionistas Tarina Tarantino and Paul Frank, former Gun N' Rose Gilby Clarke (there with his own fashion-designer wife, Daniella Clarke of Frankie B.), and Yoshiki from the Japanese glam combo X Japan, who was recently immortalized as a "Yoshikitty" doll (on display at right), surely the top honor any rock star could ever receive.

All of these celebs appeared to be having a blast...but I doubt any of them had quite as fabulous a time as this Sanrio-obsessed blogger, who'll be returning to the Sanrio scene with Kitty-like curiosity for Loungefly's "I Heart Nerds" electropop dance bash and the closing-night "Kitty In Pink" retro-'80s prom party. Watch this space!
