Russell Brand is often considered uncontrollable, but in a recent MSNBC interview, he was the one who got things under control.
The 38-year-old actor and comedian was on "Morning Joe" on Monday to promote his standup tour, "The Messiah Complex." It was an awkward interview at best, but it all went haywire when Brand decided that his interviewers, co-host Mika Brzezinski and panelists Katty Kay and Brian Shactman, were acting rude when they referred to him in the third person and got his name wrong. That's when Brand took matters into his own hands.
"These people, I'm sure, are typically very, very good at their jobs," Brand told the audience. "You're conveying news to the people of America? People of America, we're gonna to be OK. Everything's all right. These are your trusted anchors."
He then grabbed Brzezinski's notes and proceeded to do a better job of going through the show's agenda than the actual anchors themselves.
Of course, Brand's talent at anchoring doesn't come as much of a surprise when you consider his resume. Not only has the British comedian been doing standup for more than a decade, but in 2000 he worked as an MTV veejay, followed by a hosting gig on a radio show on the London Indie Rock station Xfm in 2002.
Two years later, Brand began hosting a "Big Brother" sister show and went on to host the actual reality series itself. In 2006, he became the presenter of a chat show called "1 Leicester Square" (Tom Cruise was one of the many celebrity guests ), which later became known as "The Russell Brand Show" (he also co-hosted the radio version of the show). A year later he hosted "Russell Brand's Ponderland," in which he used standup comedy to discuss various subjects.
He has also hosted a number of awards shows, including the 2006 NME Awards and the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Despite the controversy that arose from the latter show — he called George W. Bush "a retarded cowboy fella" and mocked the Jonas Brothers' purity rings — he was back presenting the next year.
Brand's most recent hosting gig was in 2011 on "Saturday Night Live." Any questions?
