Dr. Dre's long-awaited Detox album may have taken a step closer to reality Monday night, when a new song called "Kush" popped up online. The track, which features Akon and Snoop Dogg, is rumored to be a contender for Detox's first single.
Hardly a break from form, the midtempo "Kush" features several Dre staples: a vocoder, a repetitive piano hook, a lazy beat, a marijuana theme (with an "inhale/ exhale" hook) and of course Snoop, who weighs in with some classic if familiar lines ("I'm Bob Marley reincarnated, so faded").
Director Joseph Kahn recently tweeted that he's preparing a Dre video, although he didn't say which song it might be for.
Detox has been in the works, on and off, for at least seven years. Several unfinished tracks rumored to be from the album, including one called "Under Pressure" featuring Jay-Z, have leaked online over the past year, to Dre's profound displeasure.
