Smith Westerns Survive Stage Collapse in Belgium

The Rolling Stone Blog

Chicago indie rockers Smith Westerns have become the latest band this summer to deal with a stage collapse incident. According to tweets from frontman Cullen Omori this afternoon, their stage at the Pukkelpop Festival in Hasselt, Belgium collapsed during a strong rainstorm.

"Stage collapsed max almost got crushed by the tress. I hope pukkelpop has insurance bc all our shit is broke," Omori tweeted. Shortly afterward, he wrote "Praying no got hurt. Wtf."

Though Omori has confirmed that no one in Smith Westerns has been hurt, there is no word as to whether anyone else at the scene has been injured or killed. Storms are still passing through the Pukkelpop festival site as of this writing.

This is the fourth major stage collapse incident this summer. Cheap Trick, the Flaming Lips and Sugarland have all been hit in the recent past, with the Sugarland collapse at the Indiana State Fair on Saturday being the most catastrophic thus far.
