Watch Freddie Highmore Go Psycho in 'Bates Motel' Comic-Con Clip [Video]

We all go a little mad sometimes… even "Bates Motel" star Freddie Highmore.

The actor, who plays a disturbed teenage Norman Bates on A&E's hit "Psycho" prequel, was conspicuously absent from Saturday's Comic-Con panel, until executive producer Carlton Cuse unveiled a hilarious video clip explaining his whereabouts (which you can watch above).

In it, Highmore drops in on the "Bates Motel" writers' room and is furious to discover that on the wall of notecards plotting out Season 2 storylines, Norman only has one notecard ("Norman thinks about sunsets"… ha!), while his mother Norma, played by Emmy nominee Vera Farmiga, has dozens. The camera tilts as Freddie seethes: "Remind me who's still alive at the end of the movie: Norman's mother, or…?"

Cuse tries to calm him down by showing him a poster for next season, but it doesn't help: It's dominated by a huge photo of Vera, with a tiny Freddie in the background. An increasingly unhinged Freddie rants: "Vera's the size of a grapefruit! I'm barely a blueberry!... I'm invisible!"

Then he and Cuse head off to see the original "Psycho" house on the Universal lot, and Freddie's firmly in character: "It's my house!" He waves to a crowd of tourists, but they don't recognize him; they're too busy watching the tour version of Norman Bates dispose of a body. Highmore is incensed someone is stealing his identity… and let's just say it doesn't end well for Tour Norman.

The clip ends with a blood-soaked Freddie being accosted by the authorities and screaming, "You can't take me! I'll miss Comic-Con!" (No chance of that: Highmore emerged after the clip and joined the rest of the "Bates" panel.) Very funny stuff… it's good to know even a mom-obsessed killer has a sense of humor.

Season 2 of "Bates Motel" premieres in 2014 on A&E.
