Fake Music-Video TV Shows We Wish Were Real TV Shows

On Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET, Yahoo Live will live stream Bleachers' Yahoo On the Road concert from the Starland in Sayreville, NJ. Tune in HERE to watch!

Sadly, not many music videos get played on TV anymore. Not even on MTV. But some videos are so good, all those programming execs out there at least the ones at the basic-cable and UHF networks  ought to consider turning them into full-length TV shows.

The videos below aren't real television shows. Yet. But they sure are must-see TV. Happy viewing!

14. Bleachers, Thank You Very Much

This fun. spinoff band's latest single is called "I Wanna Get Better," but it doesn't get much better than an entire fake public access telethon, does it? We dare say this is better viewing than the real show created by frontman Jack Antonoff's girlfriend, Lena Dunham's Girls. (Make sure to watch the whole thing to catcher Bleachers' cover of Yaz's '80s hit "Only You"; Yaz's Vince Clarke worked on Bleachers' debut album, Strange Desire.)

13. HAIM, "My Song"

SNL's Vanessa Bayer plays tabloid talk show hostess Dallas Murphy, Kesha plays a troubled cat lady, and HAIM's bassist Este plays a closeted mime festishist. Big Sean, Grimes, and Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig also make cameos. We're hoping Kesha stars in a spinoff show, I'm in Love With My Cat, in her next video. Or in real life.

12. Gerard Way, "No Shows"

Why isn't Pink Station Zero a real show???? It looks totally out of this world. See the former My Chemical Romance frontman make his "intergalactic television debut" here.

11. Weird Al Yankovic, "Foil"

Weird Al as a cooking-show host/conspiracy theorist obsessed with the Illuminati, alien abductions, faked moon landings, and Reynolds Wrap? With Patton Oswalt directing? Why hasn't the Food Network picked this up yet???

10. Chopper One, "Touch My Fuzz"

This lamentably forgotten band, led by original Weezer guitarist Jason Cropper, might have fared better and lasted longer if What's That Song? had been an actual game show. Side note: This just might be the most '90s video ever.

9. CIV, "Can't Wait One Minute More"

If The CIV Show had been a real show, the lead singer of CIV (another forgotten '90s band), Anthony Civarelli, could have given Jerry Springer some serious competition. Take care of yourself, and each other, CIV — wherever you are.

8. Chavez, "Break Up Your Band"

We still want to know what joke the fake host of this fake variety show was telling right before the cameras started rolling… or how the members of Chavez kept straight faces while all that Chippendales chaos was erupting around them.

7. Cibo Matto, "Know Your Chicken"

This faux sitcom is titled My Life With Chicken. It is about a couple's life cohabitating with a human-sized chicken. If NBC would just pick this one up, all of the fledgling network's problems would be solved! And multiple Emmy nominations would surely ensue.

6. Gnarls Barkley, "Run"

It was alleged that this quick-cut video induced seizures in some viewers. But it was worth the risk to see a Jheri-curled, "Thriller"-jacketed, barely recognizable Justin Timberlake host a sadly fictional Soul Train knockoff called City Vibin'. We're still vibin' on this one.

5. David Lee Roth, "Just a Gigolo"/"I Ain't Got Nobody"

How can we sign up for a lifetime subscription to Dave TV? We're serious.

4. Tinted Windows, "Kind of a Girl"

The one fake episode of the fake UHF show Rock After Dark starred a supergroup featuring Taylor Hanson, Smashing Pumpkins' James Iha, Cheap Trick's Bun E. Carlos, and Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schelsinger. Incredibly, Tinted Windows was a real band!

3. The Black Keys, "10 A.M. Automatic"

Bluesy garage rock, Jewish scripture, and crazy little old ladies never went together better than in this totally surreal clip. David Cross directed this, which makes a lot of sense. But nothing else about "10 A.M. Automatic" makes any sense at all.

2. Beastie Boys, "Sabotage"

The greatest buddy-cop television show that never was, and one of the greatest music videos of all time. Rest in peace, "Nathan Wind as Cochese."

1. The Dandy Warhols, "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth"

If Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" video was turned into a David LaChapelle-directed game show/anti-drug PSA, this would be the bizarre result, basically. Heroin is so passé, but this amazing video never gets old.
