The world lost one of the world's greatest organists and sidemen in music history on June 6, 2006 when Billy Preston died after being in a coma for over 7 months. He had battled kidney disease after a lifetime of musician-style hard partying.
Billy Preston has one of the most distinguished careers in the music business. Famous for his organ, piano and keyboard work, he appears on some of the Beatles most notable recordings. In fact, many refer to Billy as the "fifth Beatle". John Lennon had argued to make Preston an official Beatle, but lost the argument to Paul. Preston played famously with the Beatles at their last public performance in London and his organ work can be found all over Let It Be.
Preston has also recorded with The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Joe Cocker, Blind Boys Of Alabama, Luther Vandross…
Well, you should be, and the list goes on and on. This playlist contains a good sampling of tracks that Billy has been involved with during his career. Please note that the Beatles do not appear as their music is still not available online legally. *sigh*
