2 Chainz will release a new EP in May. Freebase will feature five songs and will echo the street music found on his previous mixtapes.

"It's been a minute since the release of my album B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, and I wanted to give something special to my fans while I record my follow-up album," the rapper said in a statement. "This is a taste of what is to come, and is, most importantly, for them."

After a social media campaign that allowed fans to determine the cover of the project, Chainz settled on a photo of famed comedian Richard Pryor, who struggled with drug addiction, wearing two chains.

B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time is the entertainer's sophomore album. It didn't sell as well as his solo debut, and thus far hasn't hit gold status. 2 Chainz has been touring in support of the LP, but he's been weighted down with legal issues. He pleaded not guilty earlier this month to felony drug possession. The charge stems from his arrest nearly a year ago when codeine and a small amount of marijuana were found in one of his checked bags at LAX.

In other news, Funkmaster Flex recently called 2 Chainz the worst freestyler to appear on his radio show. "The freestyle that wasn't very good on my show, it had to be 2 Chainz. Honestly, I think I caught him off guard. I think he didn't expect me to ask him to do it. Because I've heard him on shows free styling before, so I knew he could handle it. But I think that day, he couldn't handle it," said Flex during an interview on ESPN2's "Highly Questionable."
