Butch Walker Prepares for Loss on 'Coming Home' – Song Premiere

Anyone familiar with singer-songwriter and successful producer Butch Walker knows that contagious sing-along songs are his forte. His new single "Coming Home," from the Georgia native's upcoming EP Peachtree Battle, is no exception. It also just may be the most personal song he's ever written.

"I guess I'm new to this, but learning to deal with the death of your father is as heavy, as to be expected – especially when you were best friends," Walker tells Rolling Stone. "'Coming Home' was written full of metaphors for 'coming to terms' with his eventual mortality. When he finally passed away, one week before the release of the song . . . Well, he proved again to be always the king of timing."

Alongside the new EP – which gets a digital release September 17th and a formal vinyl pressing on October 22nd – Walker is also the subject of a new documentary film, Out of Focus. Produced by Salome Breziner and directed by Peter Harding and Shane Valdés, the movie – which claimed the Best Documentary distinction at this year’s Nashville Film Festival – traces Walker's solo career and his songwriting and production efforts for the likes of Pink, Train, Weezer, Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, Keith Urban and others. It premieres next Thursday (Sept. 5th) in Atlanta as part of a week-long joint screening and concert tour.
