Carrie Underwood Rescues Abandoned Dog Along Highway

Carrie Underwood has given a "Temporary Home" to an abandoned dog. The country star rescued an injured Lab from the side of a highway over the holidays, took the dog to the vet and found it a new home with some neighbors.

Blogging for her fan club, the singer explained that she spotted two dogs along the road while traveling with her own dogs, Ace and Penny, from her parents' home in her native Oklahoma. "My guess is that the dogs were thrown out of their car by their owners on the highway," wrote the former American Idol winner.

One of the dogs was already dead, but she put the other – bloody and limping – into her SUV. She named the puppy Stella, took it to the vet and got it groomed. Within a matter of days, she'd found a nearby home for the dog. "I cried when she walked out the door," she wrote. Her husband, she joked, "told me not to be a crazy ex-girlfriend about it and stalk them," though the singer has been told that she's welcome to visit.
