The French electro duo were among the bands initially rumored to be a part of this year's festival, though they were not included when the lineup was announced. A slot at Coachella would make sense for them, though, as Daft Punk gear up for the release of their long-awaited new studio album, Random Access Memories, out May 21st.
The 13-track LP is now available for pre-order on iTunes, while vinyl and CD copies can be pre-ordered through the group's new website for the album. Few details are known about the album, though disco legend Nile Rodgers will most likely appear on Random Access Memories.
Though no music has officially been released, two small snippets of new tunes – one of which included Rodgers' guitar playing – soundtracked two 15-second trailers that aired during recent broadcasts of Saturday Night Live.
Even if Daft Punk don't make it to Indio, Coachella has already secured an impressive lineup with headlining performances from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blur, the Stone Roses and Phoenix, as well as sets from Lou Reed, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wu-Tang Clan, the Postal Service and more. Coachella will open the weekend of April 12th through the 14th, and return the following weekend of April 19th through the 21st.Daft Punk Coachella Rumor Resurfaces
