Ed Sheeran’s New Album Is Set To Have An ‘African’ Influence

He’s already got two bangin’ albums under his belt, and with his upcoming third one looming, Ed Sheeran’s got some big plans.

Big plans that potentially involve him moving to Africa to record it.

Yes, the red-headed apparent heart-throb will be heading to the continent to record new material, after being inspired by none other than Blue frontman Damon Albarn.

We’re just hoping that he’s packed his factor 50 – that heat, and Ed’s skin tone? A RECIPE FOR SUNBURN.

According to The Sun, Sheer-Hun is off to Ghana of all places to seek inspiration, after Damon set up Africa Express – an initiative that encourages Western and African artists to collaborate together on artistic projects.

An alleged ‘music insider’ (whatever that means) told the paper:

“Ed intends the new album to sound totally different to + and x and for it to include sounds and influences from around the world, particularly Africa.

“He has had some amazing experiences during this year’s world tour but has also spent a lot of his time between hotels and living out of a suitcase.

“So he has decided it’s time to do some proper travelling and broaden his horizons. He got in touch with Damon after seeing his work with African musicians and he has given him some good advice.

“It’s obviously a little out of Ed’s comfort zone, but he is all about experimenting and trying new things.”

Come on guys, this is basically just a glorified gap year, isn’t it? Before you know it we’ll be getting Facebook requests from Ed asking for donations so that he can climb Kilimanjaro 'for a really great cause’ etc. etc.

The multi-platinum selling artist won’t be releasing his next album for a good while yet though, and will be taking some time off to recover from the hectic time he’s had of it in the last 12 months.

Just two weeks ago, Ed launched his very own record label – Gingerbread Man Records – which will be a subsidiary of Warner Music. He said of the launch:

“I’m extremely excited to be starting my own label.”

"It’s something I’ve been planning for some time. I’ve always loved endorsing acts from the very beginning and I get to work with artists I truly believe in.”

Well between this and dating Nicole Scherzinger, we’re surprised he has time for a trip to Africa at all!
