HAIM Wants to Create a Festival That Celebrates Women in Music

Featuring Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Florence + the Machine as their line-up.

Pop-rock trio HAIM wants to do something cool for all the girl bands and female artists out there.

When speaking with Vulture at the New Yorker Festival on Friday (Oct. 2), the eldest sister, Este, noted that an idea for a “festival that’s just ladies” has been brewing between them for a while. “We talk about this all the time, how there aren’t enough female represented bands and artists at festivals,” she said. “You don’t see them. And it’s really sad for us. We came up with the idea basically of why can’t we just bring back a festival that’s just ladies — not that we don’t love the boys. Love the men.”

Lilith Fair, a festival that celebrated women in music, was shut down in 2010. However, Haim believes bringing something like that back could be really appreciated in 2015. Her dream line-up included names like Lorde, Florence and the Machine, Savages, Chvrches, and Taylor Swift.

While Este never attended Lilith Fair when it was around, she did confirm seeing a bunch of the acts individually growing up.

“I did see Melissa Etheridge in concert, I saw Sarah McLachlan in concert, I saw Paula Cole in concert and Sheryl Crow. All these amazing ladies had such an amazing outlet and place to play music, and it was really beautiful, and I feel like that’s not really available anymore and that outlet isn’t there,” she says. “We talk semi-jokingly but semi-seriously about making it happen. So stay tuned. I think that would be really magical.”
