Hello Again: Adele's '25' Has Highest-Selling First Week Ever

  • Adele's new album "25" sold 3.38 million copies in the US alone in its first week.

  • According to Nielsen, "25" is the first album to ever sell more than three million copies in a week.

  • Nielsen also said that "25" has seen the largest single sales week for any album since it began tracking point-of-sale music sales in 1991.

, citing a Nielsen report, stated that after a full week of sales, Adele's third studio album, "25" has sold 3.38 million copies in the US. The sales achievement is significant for a few reasons: 1) "25" is the first album to sell more than three million copies in any one-week period, 2) "25" is only the second album to surpass two million copies sold, and 3) "25" saw the largest single sales week for any album since 1991.

Adele's record-breaking album topped N*Sync's 2000 "No Strings Attached" album that sold 2.42 million copies in its first week of sales.

Naturally, Adele's album is 2015's best seller, surpassing the 1.8 million copies Taylor Swift's "1989" album sold.

Adele's album is performing well internationally, especially in her native Britain. Fortune pointed out that "25" sold 800,307 copies in Canada and Britain – more than the last 19 number one albums in Britain combined.

Nielsen's figures do not include online streaming. Currently, Pandora Media Inc (NYSE: P) is the only online streaming platform with access to the hit album but users have no control over which tracks (and when) they can listen to.
