The Hold Steady Deliver Bawdy 'Game of Thrones' Drinking Song

Think hard-drinking barroom band and the Hold Steady surely come to mind, at least for the people in charge of Game of Thrones. The show last month tapped the Brooklyn rockers to record "The Bear and the Maiden Fair," which appeared at the end of last night's episode of HBO's epic fantasy series. The raucous drinking song was written by the show's composer, Ramin Djawadi, with lyrics by Game of Thrones author and mastermind George R.R. Martin.

The Hold Steady Record Song for 'Game of Thrones'

"We wanted our rendition to be bawdy and a little sloppy – drunken musicians getting up on the table and jamming while the rowdy party continues around them," showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss said last month. "There was no one better for the job than the Hold Steady, and the song they delivered has been stuck in our heads for the last four weeks."

"The Bear and the Maiden Fair" will be released as a special seven-inch vinyl single to celebrate Record Store Day on April 20th.
