Isaiah ‘Ikey’ Owens, Keyboardist for Jack White, Dies On Tour

Keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens, member of Jack White’s band and former member of Mars Volta, has died in the middle of the band’s tour in Mexico. Owens was 38.

Third Man Records announced the news, stating that out of respect for the musician, the remaining Mexican tour dates have been cancelled.

“It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah ‘Ikey’ Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans,” reads the statement. “We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist.”

Owens began his career playing in various bands in Long Beach, Calif., including his own, Free Moral Agents. He played with the Mars Volta from 2001 to 2009, and joined White’s band in 2012. He has appeared on both of White’s solo albums.

According to Mexico’s Periodico Digital, Owens was found dead in his hotel room Tuesday morning, though the exact cause of death is under investigation.
