Jack White was among an all-star cast of musicians who performed in September at a concert held in conjunction with the Coen brothers' new movie, Inside Llewyn Davis. Now video of his folksy take on the White Stripes' "We're Going to Be Friends" is streaming on New York magazine's Vulture blog.
Flanked by a quartet of musicians on acoustic instruments, White picks out an acoustic guitar line and harmonizes with violin player Lillie Mae Rische (who also played on White's 2012 solo album Blunderbuss and was part of his all-female backing band, the Peacocks). "We're Going to Be Friends" first appeared on the White Stripes' 2001 album White Blood Cells.
The clip comes from a recording of the concert that will run December 13th on Showtime as Another Day, Another Time. The concert also featured Patti Smith, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Gillian Welch, Conor Oberst, the Decemberists' Colin Meloy and more. Inside Llewyn Davis opens in theaters on Friday, December 6th.This article originally appeared on Rolling Stone: Jack White Sings 'Friends' at 'Inside Llewyn Davis' Gig
