Katy Perry Names New Perfume After Queen

Katy Perry is a huge Queen fan, apparently: the pop singer has teamed with Coty Inc. for a new perfume brand called Killer Queen, named after the rock band's classic anthem from 1974.

"Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15," Perry told Women's Wear Daily. "Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in."

This new fragrance, which will hit shelves in August, is the third in a trilogy following the singer's Purr and Meow scents. For Perry, Killer Queen represents a "powerful, edgy, sophisticated" style reflective of her current music. "I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did," she says. "I feel like I'm falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted."

Back in April, Perry announced she was working with producer Dr. Luke on a follow-up to her monster third album, Teenage Dream.
