Summer is here, and the time is right for dancing in the streets. But what's the best summer song to soundtrack such activities? We here at Y! Music decided to hold a mega-poll to answer that (sun)burning summer question: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best summer anthem of all time.
After lots of heated (pun intended) debate, we've selected 32 of the most memorable summer songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Scroll down to vote for this match-up!
"California Gurls" - Katy Perry
Katy Perry's "California Gurls" won out over 2012's summer song Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" with 66% of votes.
From cheeky singer/songwriter to full-blown mega star, Katy Perry gave listeners a glittery, diabetes-inducing look into her sexy, Candyland fantasy world. The first single off her second album Teenage Dream, the 2010 song dominated charts and heralded in a record-breaking run that earned Perry the most #1 songs from a single album since Michael Jackson, with a tie of five each. Not to mention the song is catchy, fun, and unforgettable—just like how a summer fling should be.A video or other embedded content has been hidden. Click here to view it.
"Blurred Lines" - Robin Thicke
Both released this year to a huge reception, Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" ultimately won out over Daft Punk's highly-anticipated new single "Get Lucky" with 57% of votes, where both of which happen to feature Pharrell Williams.
Robin Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell turned up the heat on the top-40 circuit this summer with their provocative hit "Blurred Lines." Throughout the season, millions of listeners have requested this mega-hit on radio airwaves thanks to its flirty lyrics and playful beat built on a classic Marvin Gaye sample. Pair a sexy summer single with an even sexier music video (that also features bright red hashtags) and it's no wonder "Blurred Lines" has clawed its way up the summer music totem pole.
