With his first new album in three years due next month, Keith Urban took time from his tour schedule to chat about the creative process behind the record, Fuse, in an exclusive video clip for the Country Now Spotlight Series. The singer and guitarist says he wanted to push himself in new directions.
"I'm not trying to make a record that doesn't sound anything like me," Urban says. "In some ways, that's easy to do: It's easy to make a record that doesn't sound anything like me. But trying to make a record that sounds like me, but trying to expand it, that's what I've been trying to do."
The Australia-born singer talks about blending robotic elements with organic music on what he describes as a far-reaching collection of tunes. "I just wanted to let each song be its own thing," Urban says.
Fuse, due out September 10th on Hit Red Records/Capitol and available for pre-order through Urban's website, features 13 new songs, including duets with Miranda Lambert and Eric Church. This article originally appeared on Rolling Stone: Keith Urban Goes Inside New Album 'Fuse'
