Man Dies from Skateboard Blow to the Head While Harassing Starbucks Customer

A California man was killed this week after a skateboarder reportedly bashed him in the head with his skateboard in self-defense.

Witnesses who were inside a Santa Ana Starbucks on Tuesday afternoon say a man in his 50s was harassing customers and making threats.

He reportedly began acting aggressively toward a man in his 20s. One witness told KTLA the man in his 50s looked like he was going to attack the 20-year-old, who then reportedly struck the man with his skateboard.

"He just came abruptly into the store, looked at the kid, and said, 'Did I stutter?'" Jocelyn Martinez told KTLA. "He took a step forward towards the kid as if he were going to attack him, and that's when the kid hit him with the skateboard."

The older man was rushed to an Orange County hospital, where he died.

The 20-year-old, who Santa Ana Police had not named as of Wednesday morning, was taken in for questioning.

"Who started the fight, why it happened - those are all things that are going to have to come up, but we have to go through the process of interviewing all the witnesses," SAPD Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told KABC.

The skateboarder was not immediately taken into custody while the incident was investigated. The Starbucks location was temporarily closed.

A message left with Santa Ana police was not immediately returned early Wednesday.
