The 'Mark McGrath and Friends' Nineties nostalgia cruise that was set to sail from Miami to the Bahamas in October has been canceled, reports the Los Angeles Times. The floating festival was set to include performances from alternative-nation staples Smash Mouth, the Gin Blossoms, Spin Doctors, Marcy Playground and, of course, McGrath's own Sugar Ray.
McGrath broke the news on the cruise's website then took to Twitter, where he cited bad press following the recent fire on a Carnival Cruise ship that left thousands of passengers stranded in the Gulf of Mexico.
"Real bummer," responded McGrath to one dismayed fan. "The recent fiasco sunk us, no pun intended!" The ever-genial McGrath even offered a few upset fans guest spots to this summer's Under the Sun tour, which features many of the same bands.
"People always want to revive memories," McGrath told Rolling Stone recently about the blossoming Nineties nostalgia circuit. "'I met my wife and 'Every Morning' was on,' or ''Fly' was the first song my kid ever sang.' You can't take that memory away. Call it nostalgia. Call it whatever you want. I'm calling it the Under the Sun tour."
No dates for the Under the Sun tour have been announced yet, but the Gin Blossoms, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Vertical Horizon and Fastball are set to participate.Mark McGrath's Nineties Nostalgia Cruise Canceled
