After hinting that they would be adding more dates to their Australia tour, the Rolling Stones announced further details of a trek they're calling "14 on Fire" today. Now, in addition to their first visit to Australia and New Zealand in almost a decade, the group has added Abu Dhabi, Tokyo and Macau, China, to its itinerary, which now begins on February 21st. While in Japan, the Stones will play three shows at the 55,000-capacity Tokyo Dome, which brings the number of announced tour dates up to 12. A press release says that the band will announce two more concerts in Asia soon.
The 14 on Fire tour will include some of the features the Stones brought on their "50 and Counting" tour earlier this year. That trek found the band playing career-spanning sets that celebrated its 50th anniversary with a few gigs in London, New York and New Jersey in 2012 and across North America and U.K. this year. It culminated with sets at the Glastonbury festival in England and Hyde Park in London, which was captured for the DVD and Blu-ray release Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live.
The 14 "On Fire "dates will feature the giant tongue-and-lips-shaped stage the Stones brought to indoor dates of the 50 and Counting tour, and the press release says it will include the "tongue pit," in which fans can stand inside the catwalk. Also, like the U.S. and U.K. dates, the tour will feature appearances by special guest Mick Taylor, who played with the Stones from 1969 to 1974. The press release also promises the hits "Gimme Shelter," "Paint It Black," "Jumping Jack Flash," "Tumbling Dice" and "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll," as well as "unexpected cover versions."
