Scouting For Girls: ‘We Can Easily Take Down Simon Cowell And Get Christmas Number One’ - EXCLUSIVE

We all know Scouting For Girls for their seriously catchy singles, and when we heard that they were the newest stars to be taking part in ‘Singing In The Rainforest’ we just knew that if there was one thing that they could do it’s deliver an absolute tune.

Oh, and if you missed the memo, Singing In The Rainforest is a new show that sees established musicians visit an isolated tribe somewhere in the world and together, they make sweet music. It really is beautiful stuff.

Anyways, we caught up with Roy Stride, Greg Chuchouse, and Pete Ellard, who make up Scouting For Girls, to talk about life after the rainforest, and as it happens, they have some seriously big dreams for their new record.

Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Celebrity UK about their new album, Still Thinking About You, the boys explained: “It’s our first album in three years and doing this show kind of gave us a reason to carry on.

“We did the show and then did the festival circuit, because everybody knows about three or four of our songs so we are the sort of band that can keep a festival crowd entertained for 45 minutes or so - that’s our specialty.

“But when we wrote the new album, we included a Christmas song as the last song on the record and everyone is saying that it’s the best we have done so when we go on tour in November and December we are going to get ultra festive.

“It’s going to be a massive Scouting For Girls Christmas party, it’s going to be really fun… And then we’re going to get a number one at Christmas.”

Cor, guys - what would Simon Cowell say?

Roy clarified: “We can take down Simon Cowell easily - it’s the power of positive thinking. If I keep saying it’s going to happen it will.

“We can go to number one with our song and then the X Factor winner can do a cover of our track ‘She’s So Lovely’ - ‘She’s So Christmassy’ - and that can be number two.”

Wowzer, sounds like they have it all worked out, doesn’t it?

Speaking about their trip to Papua New Guinea for the new TV show, the boys admitted that they only really signed up for the luxury flight, with Roy explaining: “We got offered the show and I just said ‘yes’ without even telling the others about it, I didn’t even know where Papua New Guinea was so I had to go on Wikipedia to try and figure it out.”

Greg agreed, joking: “I was more excited about spending ten hours flying business class on a plane - and then when we got to the village it was like a days walk, and we had to climb over a hill and then were greeted by the tribe with spears and bows and arrows, attacking us.”

Sounds, erm, fab?

But thankfully, all three members made it out of the show alive - in fact, Roy reckoned it was the most healthy that he has ever been, telling us: “We spent a week in the remote tribe and it’s literally the fittest I have ever been.

“We were just eating rice and there was no electricity so we were in bed by 9pm, we weren’t allowed alcohol so we were getting about nine/ ten hours sleep.

“And we got chased by guys with machetes so there was even running too - sleep, exercise, and eating really clean, definitely the healthiest I have been since being in this band.”

However, it wasn’t all ‘getting in touch with your spiritual side’ and ‘finding yourself’, with the singer adding that watching some of the show back was actually pretty cringeworthy.

He shared: “The whole experience was incredible and it was like going back 200 years. We went to this guy’s house one night and the whole village was there and we were singing and it felt almost like a really magical moment.

“I listened back to it and it sounded just horrendous, and I’m literally on camera going: ‘This is just so special’, and it was awful.

“I suppose you just had to be there.”

We suppose so, but in the meantime we are definitely looking forward to watching the entire thing unfold in tonight’s episode of Singing In The Rainforest.

Which, if you’re wondering, is on Watch at 9pm.

Scouting For Girls’ new album ‘Still Thinking About You’ is released on October 16th on East West, and the band tour the UK in November & December.
