Twisted Sister Doc Nabbed by Music Box Films

Music Box Films has acquired documentary “We Are Twisted F****ing Sister,” from director Andrew Horn. The distributor has also announced a multi-year partnership with Amazon Prime Instant Video.

An August theatrical release is planned for the Twisted Sister rock doc, which recounts the band’s early days before they became one of the biggest acts of the 1980s. Horn talked with the Sisters themselves, their managers and fans about the 10 years the band spent toiling away before their brand of metal and theatrics — propelled by videos on the still-young MTV — made them an “overnight” success.

Doc premiered at IDFA Amsterdam and unspooled at the Goteborg Film Festival in Sweden earlier this year.

The band recently announced a 2016 40th anniversary and farewell tour.

The deal was negotiated with the filmmaker by Music Box Films’ president William Schopf.

Music Box Films’ Amazon Prime pact will see its upcoming releases available exclusively on Amazon’s subscription streaming service following the films’ theatrical openings.

The first film in the pact to stream on Amazon Prime Instant Video will be Dominik Graf’s “Beloved Sisters,” which bowed in Berlin last year and was released in the U.S. in January. It will be available in July. Other films on the docket include “Paulo Coelho’s Best Story,” a biopic of the bestselling author, available July 31.

“Our primary goal is to ensure these worthy films find the broadest possible audiences,” said Schopf in a statement. “Amazon Prime is a go-to for diverse, quality content, and we’re pleased to bring our current and future releases to the platform.”

Other upcoming Music Box Films titles that will be available include the Golden Globe nominated drama “Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem”; “Madame Bovary” update “Gemma Bovary,” with Gemma Arterton that will be released in theaters May 29; and documentary “Meru,” which won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award for Documentary this year. “Meru” will be released theatrically in August.
