David Bowie was vying to become the first lead artist to receive a posthumous nomination in the top category, Album of the Year, since Ray Charles was nominated (and won) 12 years ago for Genius Loves Company. But instead, his Blackstar was passed over for younger, more pop-oriented nominees. Here are other snubs and surprises on this year’s ballot.
