Man convicted of killing NY rabbi freed

Werzberger was killed in 1990 during a botched diamond robbery attempt and a man was convicted and sent to prison. On Thursday, March 21, 2013, the murder conviction of David Ranta, 58, was vacated by a Brooklyn judge based on a review that determined Ranta probably did not kill Werzberger and concluded detectives had mishandled aspects of the investigation. David Ranta, who spent more than two decades behind bars for the cold-blooded slaying of a Brooklyn rabbi, was released March 21 after a reinvestigation by prosecutors cast serious doubt on evidence used to convict him. (AP)
