United colours of Pondicherry
Pondicherry or Puducherry, call it what you will, but either doesn't take away the essence of this charming coastal enclave. Be it the French town beside the coast or the Tamil Town that begins across the storm water drain, both have unique architectural characteristics. The pastel shades of the French town may be arbitrary, but the buildings of the Aurobindo Ashram have asserted their individualism in sombre, ashen grey. On a quiet morning, after a nightly storm had washed the streets of Pondicherry, AZHAR MOHAMED ALI went exploring, and returned with these striking images of a town where, despite its infectious inertia, the colours are in constant movement.
